By carefully packing the items listed below, you can ensure a safe, comfortable, successful African hunting safari while being prepared for the unique challenges of the bush!

Travel Documents

Passport and visas: Ensure your passport is valid with sufficient blank pages - check it before booking and before you leave

Hard Copies of all important documents & copies saved to your phone.

Hard copies are required for taxidermy, permits, and emergency purposes.

Hunting Gear

Rifle and ammunition: Bring the rifle you are most comfortable with; for plains game, calibers 270–375 are recommended, and for dangerous game, minimum 375H&H with premium bullets

Optics: High-quality binoculars, rifle scope, and a range finder for accurate spotting and shooting

Knife or multi-tool: Essential for field dressing and general tasks

Rifle transport: Hard lockable case for flights and a soft padded bag for travel between hunting areas

Ammunition carrier or small ammo box to keep spare ammo organized and accessible
Clothing and footwear

Lightweight, neutral-colored clothing: Brown, beige, pale blue, or green to blend with the bush and stay cool.

Avoid bright colors, white, or black

Long-sleeved shirts & long trousers: Protect against sunburn and insect bites

Warm layers: Fleece jacket, gloves & warm hat for early mornings / evenings in the hunting truck

Rain jacket: Useful for unexpected showers

Footwear: Comfortable, worn-in safari boots or closed shoes for rugged terrain; sandals or flip-flops for camp use

Swimwear most of our lodges have a pool/gym

Personal Items

Sunglasses and sunscreen: Protect against sun and UV exposure

Lip balm with SPF: Prevent sunburned, wind chapped lips

Daypack: Light back bag to Carry water, snacks, insect repellent, and other essentials

Camera or smartphone & chargers: Capture wildlife and scenery

Flashlight or headlamp: Head torch fis great for nighttime use

Contact lenses and glasses: Include spares and solution if needed

Medical and Health

Prescription medications: Bring enough for the trip, in original packaging with a copy of the prescription

General antibiotics and chronic medications: For emergencies or ongoing conditions

Malaria prophylaxis: If traveling to malaria-prone areas, take as prescribed - The Eastern Cape is not a malaria area

First-aid kit: Bandages, antiseptic cream, blister dressings, analgesics, antihistamines, motion sickness tablets, and rehydration salts
